BOW for the Week of: August 4 to August 10, 2010

BevX loves Gin. It’s the essential element of the real martini and the original flavored Vodka.

Gin is a tremendous category and nothing pleases us more than to see a new crop of interesting and flavorful Gins emerging on the Market today. One such Gin is Whitley Neill London Dry Gin from England.

Whitley Neill London Dry Gin was created by Johnny Neill in Warrington, England just three years ago. Neill comes from a long line of distillers and brewers who have operated in the region for more than two centuries. Neill’s Gin is produced in a relatively small and independent distillery utilizing antique copper pot stills that create a round and lush spirit. Nine botanicals are used to create the brand’s unique aroma and flavor profile. Two of Whitley Neill’s botanicals are quite unique and hail from Africa: baobab fruit (an image of the baobab tree graces the gin’s label) and cape gooseberries. Neill’s wife is from South Africa and he was inspired by the flavors of her homeland.

This Gin is very versatile working well in every traditional, and modern, Gin cocktail. However, it may be at its best in the traditional dry martini where it can show its subtle nuances and velvety texture.

Tasting Notes:

Crystal clear. Wonderfully generous and complex aromatic profile fills the nose. It is amazingly floral with notes of orange blossom and sweet and tart citrus and spice. The palate confirms the nose being fruity and spicy while dry and crisp, ready to marry with any cocktail while the classic martini is our preferred vehicle. Wonderful and unique. $29.95
